Getting around Tbilisi
Tbilisi has a useful combination of metro, municipal buses, minibuses, taxis, ride-hailing apps and walking. The metro is particularly useful for longer journeys across the city, while buses fill many of the gaps between stations. Bolt and Yandex Go are widely used for taxis and are generally easier for visitors than negotiating fares with drivers on the street. Central neighborhoods can often be explored on foot, but Tbilisi is hilly and some older streets have steep slopes, stairs or uneven paving.

Negotiating Street Taxi Fares
Street-hailed taxis may not provide the same price transparency as app-based rides. Use Bolt or Yandex Go when possible. If taking a street taxi, tell the driver the exact destination and agree on the complete fare in GEL before entering the vehicle.
Choosing Airport Transport
Municipal bus #337 connects Tbilisi International Airport with the city. The bus stop is directly outside the arrivals hall. The standard municipal fare is 1 GEL and includes 90 minutes of travel within the municipal transport system. Travelers who prefer a direct ride can compare Bolt or Yandex Go before accepting an informal airport taxi.
Underestimating Tbilisi's Hills
A route that appears short on a map may involve steep climbs, stairs or uneven streets, particularly in and around Old Tbilisi and hillside neighborhoods. Travelers with limited mobility, small children or heavy luggage should check elevation as well as distance before deciding to walk.
Rush-Hour Traffic
Road traffic can substantially increase travel times during busy periods. For journeys that can be made conveniently by metro, the metro may be more predictable than a taxi or bus during heavy road congestion.
Assuming Every Foreign Bank Card Will Work Everywhere
Supported bank cards can be used on municipal transport, but travelers should still keep a backup payment method. A MetroMoney or transport subscription card can be useful for visitors relying heavily on public transport.
Expecting a Child Seat in an Ordinary Taxi
Do not assume a standard taxi or ride-hailing vehicle will arrive with an appropriate child seat. Families who require one should arrange suitable transport in advance and confirm the seat type before the journey.
